The iPad provides the ultimate browsing experience?

These iFails will be hitting the trash can really soon. I promise you this product will bomb so hard. If it does well, I have no hope for humanity.

I completely agree. It’s just another platform to require monthly contracts. It’s a sucker’s deal. Plus, what can you do on it that you can’t already do on your laptop (besides the touch screen)?
“Well, golly gee! It sure does look cool, and if Apple says it’s the next tech, then sign me up, Sarge!”

I’m trying to think of a single time that I used flash on a website that I didn’t find it incredibly stupid that I had to use flash… it irks me so fracking much that I have it blocked in my browser so that it only loads if I want it to because otherwise sites that use flash are utterly unusable (most of the time).
No, wait. Who am I kidding? I can’t use Addicting Games or the Disney site?! How am I going to get anything accomplished?!

Yes, yes. I understand both your comment and DieLaughing’s sentiments. I use flashblocker so I don’t need to be bothered with lag and and all that crap. However, a huge portion of the websites that provide entertainment on the web utilize flash in some capacity. That can’t be denied. Are they behind the times? Are they using something that isn’t as good of a format as some alternative? Sure. That may be true. That also doesn’t matter. What matters is that the iPad looks to be positioned as a tool for casual web browsing and web entertainment. Not having flash support severely limits its ability to be that tool.
The iPad wasn’t released in 2013, it was released in 2010. It should provide functionality within the environment that exists today and in the near future. Flash, for the near term, is part of that environment.

But hold on. What if we re-contextualize this for a second. What if Some Company is about to release a Big Computer-Like product, and everybody tells them that their BC-L has to run Windows because something like (unusually high number for such a suck product)% of computer-like products run windows, and if you are going to have a computer-like product you have to Comply With My Demands!
What happens if Some Company Does Not Comply? What if Some Company recognizes that though lots and lots of REALLY FUN THINGS and SUPERCOOL FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS and AWESOME PORN SITES really only work on Windows, they also recognize that Windows is little more than a computer virus and/or vehicle for a computer virus that will eventually break said computer-like device and thus they will not support said Virus.
Do they automatically fail?
I doubt it.
I also doubt that you won’t be able to do just about anything you want in a Disney app (which I already have on my iPod Touch) or a Farmville app (I will not ever have a Farmville app) or a CNN or a Bang Bros or an addicting-porn-tube mobile enhanced page which will eventually supersede all things virus (are we still talking about the Virus called Windows, or have we moved on to the virus called Flash?).
I just don’t think it’s that big of an issue. The iPad doesn’t need to provide anything they don’t want to support. If they chose to say no to mp3s or animated gifs or blinking text, they could. And having it release in 2010 is precisely the point. Put your foot down now, because it isn’t going to get any easier in 2013, because many developers will bend over backwards to play footsie with Flash until somebody tells them to Stop It Right Now The Party Is Over.
So the iPhone does not support flash. So smart providers like YouTube already have quicktime files available (which I always get when I watch a youtube vid because like I said, I have Flash blocked) and so I’m wondering why if you have Flash blocked too we’re even having this discussion because You Have Turned Off Part of the Internets and We’re Sending a Team of Thought Police to Your House Immediately Do Not Attempt to Turn Off Your Internets!
Just to be clear, I know for a fact that I don’t know much, but I know that I know it so I’m good.
TL;DR;GB

The problem with this sentiment as I see it is that Apple can dictate what applications and sites that I use. For instance, there will be a very cold day in hell before Apple allows true porn video applications, I am sure. Not that such a thing would be interesting to most of you good God fearing Christians, but I for one believe in freedom. For instance, if I want to use GOOGLE VOICE, I bloody well will. Apple has a totally different idea about how things should work though, and I don’t exactly see eye to eye with their strategies.
You say that Windows is a bug ridden virus infested piece of shit, I can agree to a point. Although the main reason why it is a bug ridden virus infested piece of shit is because it’s the most popular operating system on the planet. It doesn’t matter if that’s by choice or not, the fact remains, it’s the most common operating system, therefore there will be a lot of viruses. Yes, Linux is much harder to write viruses for, and that includes Mac OS X as well. Don’t kid yourselves though, there are plenty of really smart people that spend their entire lives trying to fuck shit up for others, so it’s only a time before we see some decent viruses for Linux as well.
How do you think hackers owned a bunch of Chinese servers and desktops that they then used as staging points for hacking into American companies? Do you think they were Windows machines? Probably not. In all probability they were Linux boxes with vulnerabilities.
Seriously, bringing up Windows into this argument makes you sound like a Mac fan boy, and it doesn’t really give your points any credence.
If you’ve ever gone through the pains of submitting an application through the iTunes Connect service, you know what I am talking about. Apple denies and approves applications mostly based on chance. Some, like Google Voice, gets weeded out because they pose a threat to Apple’s interests. Fine, they have to make their money somehow, but there has to be a limit to the insanity.
All that aside, yes, the iPad does take a step in the right direction for the hardware of the future. The software leaves something to be desired. The iPad is basically a really, really large iPod Touch. Now, there are so many things that Apple could have done with this device to make it more attractive. I for one believe that this is part of their long term strategies. Instead of releasing a perfect device at once, they release one with flaws that leaves people wanting something better. Pave way for the Apple iPad S or whatever you might call it.
The fact remains: to be a proper browser, you have to support Flash. A lot of sites of today use Flash. Fine, it’s not the optimal way and we all want Flash to go away eventually. It won’t happen overnight though, it will take years.
You want the real reason why Apple’s devices do not support Flash? It’s not because it’s a cumbersome plugin, it’s not because it’s going to go away eventually. It’s because Apple likes to be in control. How would they make money if you could just go to a site and play games for free, or watch movies for free? Does not really make sense, does it?
Of course they are going to tell you all sorts of things about Flash. I for one think that they are doing Adobe a great disservice. Adobe is the one company that really got Apple computers going. Without their products NOBODY would be using a damn Mac to begin with. Feel free to discuss this, but if you were around in the printing or ad industry a few decades ago, you know what I am talking about.
