Fuck you, AT&T.

Seriously, 2.3 gigs in two weeks from what he describes as using his GPS for maps and his younger cousins checking a few YouTube videos? I call some serious fucking bullshit. Still, his plan is supposed to be “unlimited,” so it should be. Nevertheless, he is definitely using a veritable fuckton of data.

I seldom reach 2 gigs in a month, and I use twitter, Facebook, corporate email, three Google Mail accounts, Foursquare, maps, navigation, and a moderate amount of browsing. My email accounts are either push, or check every 15 minutes or less. I also have KIK, Voxer, and a bunch of other silly apps on my phone that contribute to my data usage.

Do I watch videos on my phone? No. That’s just fucking torture. The screen is tiny. Why would I subject myself to that? I’ll whip out my tablet for that. If I want to listen to music, I’ll stream it from Google Music. That does however eat into my high speed data allotment from T-Mobile, and since I only have 5 GB of high speed bandwidth I tend not to be a retard about what I do from my phone. I switch it to wifi whenever I am near it, at the house, in the office, you name it.

Does this mean I agree with data throttling? No. I think it should be unlimited. But if The Huff is trying to portray 2.3 GB in a two week time span as some kind of normal usage I have to call bullshit. Are we constantly evolving and redefining how much data we consume daily, yes. Do we need to suck down 2.3 GB in a week or two? No. If you need that amount of data, switch to a plan that allows you to use unlimited data at high speeds. Sure, it will cost you more, but then again, that’s life, isn’t it?

Besides, the plan states “unlimited data,” not “unlimited data at the highest speed possible.” That’s not even reading between the lines, that’s a clear statement. He still got data delivered to his phone, just really fucking slow.

I am tired of people bitching about slow networks and slow data. If it’s so fucking important to you, upgrade your fucking connection. Video, music, and other “thick” data streams cannot, and will not, ever be considered necessities of life. If you want them, you pay for them.

I felt that our home network was slow at times and Jill sometimes had trouble with Vonage for work, which is essential for her making a living. Netflix, YouTube, and other things were not. At first we simply limited our usage of these channels of data to times she was not working.

Introduce wideband. Now we have 30 down and 5 up. Enough for about three or four Netflix clients, two Xbox 360s, and whatever browsing we all do and Jill can still work and get perfect audio for her work phone.

Quit bitching and upgrade, you lazy losers.

Same thing goes for your phone. It’s not meant for heavy streaming. If that’s what you like to do, then be prepared to pony up cash for it.

So quit bitching about your first world problems. Remember, in India they still primarily have 2G. That’s as fast as it goes, except for some cities that have 3G, and sometimes even 4G. Can you imagine? 2G? That’s from the early 90s.

P.S. I had to correct the title, it was driving me insane being all lowercase and still using a period at the end as well as having an acronym in all lowercase. Sorry, Kris.
